    Coach's Note

The 2024-25 seasons were full of record-breaking performances and high academic achievement with accolades coming from the national and conference level.

Senior Katie Stevens wrapped up her career with appearances at both Track & Field National Championships, earning 2nd-Team All-America honors in the Weight Throw, Hammer, and Discus. For good measure, she was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for the third time in her career. Latrell Fomby joined her at the Outdoor Championships with his first appearance in the Discus.

Stevens was joined on the All-Academic Team by five other teammates while CNU earned team recognition for all four squads (M/W XC, M/W T&F) by the national coaches’ association.

The School Record Board has five new entries, including Stevens upping her Weight Throw best, Fomby breaking both indoor throws records (Weight Throw and Shot Put), Colin Sliwa taking down the Hammer record. Millie Weinhold, Courtney Mudd, Sarah Bland, and Adalyn Perez combined for a new 4x1500m Record at the Colonial Relays. The All-Time Lists saw 84 changes during the year, settling on 49 new listings.

While Santa Cruz broke three of our four Conference win streaks, the women retained the Indoor Title and the team posted 50 All-Conference performances overall. Andrew Janetsky earned XC Rookie of the Year honors, Stevens was named Women’s Outdoor T&F Athlete of the Year. Five Championships Records were claimed by your Captains along with five Athlete of the Championships honors.

The 2025-26 campaigns are off to a good start with the XC squads posting 14 new entries on the All-Time Lists, including 3 of the top 15 Men’s 8k times and 4 of the top 20 (including 2 of the top 5) 6k times every posted by a Captain. All seven of those student-athletes are returning next year and are favorites for Nationals berths in 2026!

Though the indoor T&F season really kicks off in January, we had a chance to get a glimpse of what’s coming from our new freshmen and the progress the returners have made since last spring at our December Holiday Open. Junior Seth Morris led the way with a new School Record in the Shot Put (53-11.75) which would have qualified him for Nationals last year.

We will once again host the Coast-to-Coast Indoor Championships on the Vince Brown Track February 20-21 and will travel to Mary Washington for the Outdoor Championships May 1-2.

We continue to maintain and upgrade our training tools that helped generate 439 PRs last year and travel the team to the best meets to hone their competitive skills and post their biggest performances.

Your generous support keeps these efforts moving forward and allows our student-athletes to enjoy and benefit from one of the best experiences in collegiate athletics.
